Liability Options
Value your furniture? At Harrington Moving And Storage LLC, located in Andover, MA, and Portsmouth, NH we do! Any moving company licensed as a common carrier in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts should offer several choices of liability coverage in order to protect you and your valuables during your move.

The following information below can be found on the Massachusetts Movers Association website: www.massmovers.org, "Placing A Value On Your Household Possessions", as well as other important information concerning moving that you should review when booking your move.

Harrington Moving And Storage LLC provides the three options set forth at www.massmovers.orgto our customers:

Option A: 60 Cents Per Pound Per Article
This is minimum coverage and there is no charge for option A. Under this option it does not matter whether your items are lost or damaged, as a licensed moving company, Harrington Moving And Storage LLC's maximum liability to you under this option is 60 cents per pound per article.

Option B: Declared Lump Sum Value
There is a charge for this option. Under this option, you declare a lump sum value for your entire shipment, subject to a minimum of $1.25 per pound times the weight of your shipment (you may declare more, but not less). For example, if your shipment weighs 10,000 pounds, the lump sum value would be $12,500 (10,000x1.25) and that amount will be the Mover's maximum liability to you. The charge for this option is $8.00 per $1,000.  So in the example above where the declared value is $12,500 the charge would be $100 (12,500x.008) and will be added to your bill.

Remember, if there is a claim*, the Mover is NOT obligated to write a check to you for the entire amount of the declared shipment value. Any item damaged will be replaced, repaired or a cash settlement will be offered, according to the depreciated value, not to exceed the shipment's declared value. The Mover will apply depreciation to any claim made under this option.

Also, it is important to note that if you do not select any option when the Mover's arrive, this option will automatically apply and the Mover will charge accordingly. So again, in the example set forth above, $80 would be charged to your bill.

Option C: Full Replacement Value
There is a charge for this option. Full "replacement" value protection is non-depreciated coverage. NOT all Movers offer this option. This option provides for the repair or replacement of the item, whichever is less, to restore the item to its condition immediately before the loss.

This option is subject to a minimum declared value of $4.00 per pound (you may declare more, but not less). Depreciation does not apply under this option. For example, using the same shipment weight as above, 10,000 pounds x $4.00 per pound = $40,000 of liability coverage. The charge for this option is $12.00 per $1,000. So this option is the most expensive and gives the most coverage. Using our example, the charge that would be added to your bill for $40,000 of liability coverage would be $480 (40,000x.012).**

*All claims must be filed in writing within 15 days of the move. Contact your Mover for a claim form. Any damaged item will be reasonably repaired, replaced, or a cash settlement may be offered, at the option of the Mover.

**Warning: The above information is only a summary of each option and not all the information provided in "Placing a Value on Your Household Possessions" is set forth above.  Please go to www.massmovers.org for more detailed reading and you should consult an insurance agent or other professional to assist you in this decision.
